The Top 3 Ways to Smooth Your Wrinkles

The Top 3 Ways to Smooth Your Wrinkles

A woman with curly hair is looking at a flower.
Frown lines, crow’s feet, parentheses around your mouth, and skin that seems less than perky with each passing day are annoying signs of aging that you can do something about.

Neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are a class of injectables that can virtually erase these common signs of aging.

When these neuromodulators are combined with fillers the results are nothing less than dramatic. Administered early enough and these miracle-working injectables will actually slow, and even prevent, more wrinkles from forming.

You can now glow with confidence no matter your age, thanks to the amazing results garnered from neuromodulators.

So Just What Are Neuromodulators?

As they relate to cosmetic procedures, neuromodulators are essentially wrinkle-relaxing injections that contain FDA-approved botulinum toxin-A.

Botox is the most famous of these injectables, however, there are actually a few others available.

The top three neuromodulators to treat signs of aging are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. While similar in results they do differ slightly from one another.

In order to restore your smooth complexion a very small amount of purified botulinum toxin-A is injected into specific facial muscles which cause wrinkles.

Imagine those ever-multiplying crow’s feet which appear when you smile or react a certain way, those frown lines when you concentrate disappearing.

You still look like you, but with the healthy glow of youth and vitality.

Neuromodulators temporarily alter the behavior of nerves to certain stimuli. In addition to non-invasive cosmetic procedures FDA-approved botulinum treatments are used to correct conditions such as excessive perspiration, digestive disorders, migraines, and chronic pain.

For those who suffer the treatment is life-changing.

Wrinkles and How They Form

Before delving into the different types of neuromodulators to treat the signs of aging and erase your wrinkles, it’s necessary to have an understanding of why and how these wrinkles form.

This may sound a bit like a biology lesson, but trust us you will appreciate the knowledge.

Collagen and elastin are the main components of youthful skin. Your production of both slows as you age.

With limited production of these two proteins your skin can’t “bounce back” like it once did. Frown lines remain long after you’ve solved that math problem, crows feet stay put even as the laughter fades.

You can’t stop these natural reactions to life, and the evidence builds in the way of wrinkles and lines that grow more prominent each day, causing you to appear exhausted and frustrated no matter how you may feel.

How Neuromodulators Help

The lack of an abundance of collagen and elastin doesn’t mean you need to simply give in to wrinkles.

You can shine, glow, and put your best face forward with the help of today’s aesthetic neuromodulators. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin work against the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing your facial muscles responsible.

When your muscles no longer contract in a manner that produces and accentuates certain wrinkles the result is a younger, more relaxed, and approachable appearance.

No neuromodulating injectable should ever be administered by anyone other than a certified professional.

There is a technique-an art, if you will-to ensure your appearance is fresh and natural-looking, never frozen or plastic.

Your results are sure to delight you. You’ll find, whichever product you use, these results last anywhere from three to six months. Combining these treatments with fillers is often beneficial and results are even more dramatic.

Types of Neuromodulators

Botox entered the aesthetics market more than three decades ago, after full FDA approval.

At the time it was the only brand of neuromodulator available in the U.S. Millions of Americans were thrilled at the outcome as their crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines virtually disappeared.

And Botox remains the number one choice for many who want the benefits of reversing the clock on aging.

A few years into the Botox phenomenon two more contenders in the aesthetic use of neuromodulators arrived on the scene, bearing FDA approval.

They are Dysport and Xeomin. While all three products essentially provide the same outstanding results in ironing out your wrinkles there are some slight differences.

Let’s take a look at how these three products compare.

Botox

Having been around since 1989 it’s easy to see why Botox is the most popular neuromodulator.

Longevity and proven results are key to brand recognition.

More consumers, especially first-time users of this non-invasive age defying procedure, go with what they consider to be tried-and-true.

Botox is manufactured by Allergan right here in the United States.

When Botox first came on the aesthetics scene it was recommended primarily to address frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Now there are so many more ways Botox can help you turn back the calendar.

Injections can even help to relax the bands and vertical cording in your neck that pull and accentuate the appearance of aging.

The procedure for administering this well-known remedy is a fairly easy one, and applies to all three products. After your consultation, your aesthetician will determine the number of injections you will need to achieve your desired results.

Depending on the number of injections you require the procedure will typically take less than an hour.

Discomfort is minimal at most and you’ll begin to notice results within a few days, with full results visible in one to two weeks.

As mentioned earlier these results vary according to the individual, but you can expect your dramatic results to last, on average, three to six months.

Dysport

Dysport is manufactured by Galderma and is very similar to Botox in its formula.

Both Dysport and Botox contain added proteins which bind the botulinum toxin and enable the results to last longer.

Dysport, however, is found to spread faster as it is more diluted.

This results in noticeable improvements in your appearance in a much shorter time frame than Botox, or Xeomin.

Because the dilution of Dysport is different from that of the other two neuromodulators, patients may need more injections.

The cost is much lower however than the other brands so it evens out.

Dramatic results are obvious in one to three days and Dysport continues to maintain your wrinkle-free appearance for around four months, although individual results will vary.

Xeomin

Xeomin is the latest brand contender in the neuromodulator market. Approved in 2011, and manufactured by Merz, Xeomin delivers results just as stunning and similar to Botox and Dysport.

The standout difference in Xeomin is the absence of the protein binder.

This amazing product is pure botulinum toxin-A.

The absence of protein binders doesn’t make too much difference in the product, or the results, when compared to Botox and Dysport.

The major difference is you are far less likely to have a negative allergic reaction to Xeomin.

Xeomin also takes a bit longer to provide results.

While Botox begins to display noticeable improvements within a few days, and Dysport even sooner, Xeomin can take up to a week to provide any dramatically noticeable results.

Because all three products are administered in a clinical setting, by a licensed Esthetician, and the process is very minimally invasive (really, the process is considered non-invasive) there is no down time.

You may experience a headache, or some soreness, sensitivity, or redness at the injection site, but these reactions only last a day or two, at most.

Not Just For Signs of Aging

These products are not just beneficial to those looking to turn back time.

Neuromodulators help control excessive sweating, especially in the hands and feet, control the pain associated with migraines and cluster headaches, and aid in correction of TMJ.

Results Depend on Professional Injection Technique

While neuromodulators are a remarkable way to restore the appearance of your skin your results depend on the technique used to inject them.

That’s why it is vital to consult with an experienced and certified Esthetician.
